Great to hear very informative insights from two of Victoria's foremost tourism industry leaders yesterday at the TAA (Vic) Hotel Industry Update. Claire Spencer, CEO Arts Centre Melbourne, spoke of the recent Victorian Government funding announcement allocated to the precinct that will kick start its transformation, as part of a project that is expected to ultimately attract an additional three million visitors each year. Jason Marriner, CEO of the Marriner Group, spoke of his company's significant investment to upgrade two of Melbourne's most iconic theatres - The Princess Theatre and the Comedy Theatre, in time for the arrival of blockbuster shows, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (commencing Jan. 2019) and Come From Away (commencing July 2019). An interesting article regarding the banning of Airbnb leasing of apartments in a new development in the Docklands, that will also house the new Marriott hotel.  The consideration of a piecemeal approach by developers to control such activity reinforces the need for government to instead consider overarching regulation of quasi-commercial Airbnb style accommodation in a residential setting and to provide clarity for all stakeholders regarding how such laws will apply in Victoria. https://lnkd.in/fVFe9EX
